3 Reasons to Brew Borage Tea

Gol-gav-zaban (Borage) is an herb native to Iran and Eastern Mediterranean region and cultivated in other  The dried purple flowers are brewed in the same manner as you would brew tea leaves and has been used in many years in Iran to relieve symptoms associated with the common cold, flu and other respiratory ailments.

Listed below are 3 reasons to brew a cup of Borage tea on a regular basis for excellent heart and vascular health:

  1. Antioxidant Effects: Borage tea is super high in antioxidant activity with even greater antioxidant potential than Valerian tea which I also recommend to my patients who have difficulty sleeping (described in further detail in “Heal Your Heart”).
  2. Reduces Cholesterol:  In animal models, borage reduces cholesterol and liver fat . Excessive liver fat is associated with the development of the metabolic syndrome,  and diabetes.  Further testing in humans may help to determine whether 1 or more cups of borage tea daily can keep these disorders at bay.
  3. Improves Anxiety and Stress Levels:  In a study of 30 men,  random assignment to supplemental borage oil correlated with reduced heart rate and blood pressure in response to mental stress activities.
